Decivilization Advocates Defeated

NEW YORK FREE CITY, United States/Teralogos Dec 2, 2100
The Decivilization movement suffered a setback today, as a federal judge issued
an order granting temporary protection to the Empire State Building. Since
2097, the old building and a 10-block area around it have been slated for
demolition as part of the ongoing Manhattan Redevelopment Project. In
November, Preservationist advocates requested a stay order pending their
application for World Heritage Site status for the building.

"Once a building is torn down, it can never be replaced," said U.S. district
court judge Maryam Quesada. "Until the World Heritage Foundation has a
chance to evaluate the site, any move to destroy the building would be grossly
premature."

The decision is a defeat for Decivilization advocates, who have long argued
for the return of most of Manhattan to an "unbuilt" state.
