Well, the Ogre fiction seems very clear that Ogres are different to any other
manmade artifact - friendly Ogres are "him", enemy Ogres are "it" - they have
computer brains because men can't react quickly enough to survive, they're
inhuman, they spew thermonuclear death and destruction (ok - so do HVYs, etc),
but you get the picture - they are not machines that anybody empathises with.
