The SO subscribes to _The Economist_; I've read this already.

Yeah, the Nihonese^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^HJapanese haven't yet
twigged to the idea that some of their number Really F***ed Up
during WW2. They need to get over that whole "honor" thing; one
man's screwup doesn't taint his family or friends.

Also, there's a reason why Alcoholic Anonymous's 12 steps in-
cludes the qualifier "except where [attempting to make amends] will
only cause further harm". Yes, never forget -- but at some point,
forgiveness is necessary, or else we get the "circle of fire" mention-
ed in one of John Nowak's Car Wars-related stories ("Amateur
Status, IIRC).
