Hidy Ho All,
I came up with this. I had many non-SJ Games figs in 6mm scale
including lots of GW and Fortress Figures stuff. I decided to
concentrate on the Central Front (North Africa/Middle East). I am
putting together a site with my stuff at www.starbase10.com/ogre
(feedback is welcome). Anyway, I figured the Israelis would build a lot
of hover units but I didn't want to go overboard. A Hover MBT would have
thinner armor than a standard Heavy and be slower than a standard GEV. I
came up with the following units (based on what minis I have):
It was at during the Last Arab-Israeli wars of 2075-2089 that GEV units
shown forth in their finest hour. On the open deserts of southern
Israel, the Sinai Peninsula and Arabia GEVs (Ground Effect Vehicles, or
hovercraft) truly came into their own. On the battlefields of Europe and
East Asia their high speeds made them the strike units of choice. On
the sands of the Middle East they became absolute nightmares. The
Israeli GEV pilots were among the most elite ground effect cadre of the
Last War.
Maccabee Hover Main Battle Tank
(I use Fortress Figures www.fortressfigures.com heavy hover tank to
represent this unit)
ATK 4
RNG 2
DEF 2
MOV 3/2
TER GEV
Pts 6
Darak (Archer) Hover Missile Tank
(I built a conversion, mating a GW missile rack from the old epic scale
whirlwind to the body of a fortress figures Heavy Hover tank to
represent this unit)
ATK 3
RNG 4
DEF 2
MOV 3/2
TER GEV
Pts 6
Shimshon (Sampson) Cruise Missile Hover
ATK 1*
RNG 1*
DEF 2
MOV 1/1
TER GEV
Pts 6
Carries a Delilah 18 Cruise Missile (12 pts)
* Anti-Personnel weapons and can only fire at Infantry (including
marines, engineers and militia), trucks, hovertrucks or command posts.
MOV increases to 2/1 after the cruise missile is fired.
The light Fortress Figures hover tank serves as the Israeli Barak
(lightning) GEV. A micromachines SPA is the resheph (hot thunderbolt)
MHWZ. The Israelis use license built Combine Ranger and Yankee tanks
(which they call the Milchamah (warrior) and Shomir (guardian)
respectively. Combine Howitzers, LADs and Lasers are also in service
with the IDF. The Golem Cybertank is a conversion based on the Fencer
front mated with a Mk III tail. (I will post pics to my website when I
finish this one... lots of cutting, drilling and filing on this one).
Arab Forces are primarily constructed from GW Epic 40K figures. I use
GZG Islamic Federation infantry figures to represent Arab infantrymen.
Leman Russ tanks are the Arab 'Saladin' Heavy Tanks, Chimera APCs are
the Arab 'Khalid' light tanks. Baneblades are Arab 'Al-Malik' Super
Heavies. Basiliks make good Arab 'Mamluk' MHWZ. Space Marine land
speeders are good 'Askar' LGEVs, I use Stan Johansen's GEVs to represent
the 'Ghulam' GEV. PanEuropean HWZ and Missile Crawlers round out the
Arab forces.
Warmest Regards,
