Thinking the same thing I am (only I want to use the Columbia
Games "blocks of war" maps)?

Way ahead of you -- it doesn't work very well, as then the FW
force only has to punch out 2-3 missiles instead of several (and if
the OGRE uses Missile Launchers, watch out for the "one-shot
mission kill"). Also, the "nuclear hand grenades" aren't that effec-
tive vs. massed LT and/or HT (compare the effects of CMs on
tracks as to on hovers).

That's sort-of the idea; the non-OGRE player chooses a "soap
opera", and discovers that the OGRE's missiles are capable of
annihilating his force in two shots; this forces him to take tracked
units to avoid "death by shockwave".
Further comment on Nihon and/or Israeli OGREs:
As I write this, I'm fiddling with the OGREcalc page. I came up with
this for the "early model" Nihon "Steel Demon":
MB: 2; SB: 4; AP: 12; EM: 2; MR(IM): 0(0); Mv: 6"; TI: 8; 105 VP;
Load: 16; Intro: 2073.
Background: This was the "first edition" of the Steel Demon; it
substituted two of the III-B's missiles for added AP (to deal with
massed Chinese Militia attacks). When the Missile Rack was intro-
duced, the "second edition" Steel Demon was created to take
advantage of the new technology; the assault on Hong Kong had
demonstrated that the unit's firepower against modern armor was
somewhat inadequate.
And the "early" "Golem":
MB: 1; SB: 5; AP: 10; EM: 4; MR(IM): 0(0); Mv: 6"; TI: 8; 110.5 VP;
Load: 16.375; Intro: 2073.
Background: This early iteration of the Golem was designed around
dealing with large number of "archaic" tanks and foot-mobile in-
fantry, which the nations confronting Israel had in abundance. With
the "acquisition" of Missile Rack tech, the Golem was redesigned to
take full advantage (much to Israel's foes' regret).
And a much earlier OGRE for the Nihonese, the "Steel Wind":
MB: 0; SB: 2; AP: 4; no missiles at all; Mv: 6"; TI: 3; 31 VP;
Load: 13&1/3; Intro: 2071.
Background: These units were deployed as part of the initial Nihon
invasion of China; the lack of a single "big gun" was based around
the idea that when engaging the Chinese hordes, it was not the
strength of the firepower that mattered, but the volume. It was not
as successful as its designers had hoped, and was phased out once
the "Steel Demon" came on-line.
Everything except the background sections is straight off the
OGREcalc page. (Javascript that works -- I never thought I'd see
the day.... :) ) Opinions?
