Then you sir are on the wrong message board ;).
There have been a fair share of flames in this group,
but out of the flames usually rise many spirited
conversations that bring ideas forth for people try,
ignore, or even rip on.
As for Dave's idea about treads, I am a purist
when it comes to OGRE - a push the lead and roll the
dice kind of guy. I tend to agree with the reasoning
behind the flames on this issue. But I would not flame
Dave for being one of many people who really like OGRE
from keeping interest alive in the game. A game which
the manufacturer/owner/license holder does not see an
economic reason for more fully supporting.
I also would not flame the flamers for expressing
how they feel. Many people, myself included, believe
that one of the great things about this game is how
simple it can be. And when you play the size games
that the group I am in plays, simple is better.
On the issue of variable tread damage, I think
that the sheer number of tread units given to each
OGRE provides more than enough realism with respect to
how an OGRE can be slowed down, and additional detail
is unecessary and can slow a game down. However, as
you mention, this is an optional rule which those who
like can use if they want.
But Servitor, we all have thick skin around here.
You are best served by the immortal words of one Sgt.
Hulka - "Lighten up Francis."
