Hello,
I think I'll introduce myself before asking questions.
My name is Guido tum Suden, I'm from northern Germany and yesterday I
finally began playing Ogre Miniatures for the first time.
I took the GEV-Map, stretched it a little bit so that it became a
square map, scaled it to 4' x 4', redrew everything in Illustrator
and printed the new map on 12 pages which I glued together.
Of course it's flat but not having to bother with LOS the first time
playing is just as well.
We tried the Breakthrough scenario.
So I got 24 squads. We said that means 48 pts just in case I wanted
to use Engineers which I thought a nice idea for taking down the
bridge before the GEVs could pass under it.
First I wanted to use 2 Howitzers but that would have been 24 pts
from 36. So I took one MHWZ to reach either the road in the west or
the river. I also took 2 HVYs and 1 MSL which probably wasn't a good
idea against 12 GEVs but how should I know?
The games lasted 6 hours, most of the time was reading, anyway, it
was a lot of fun.
I was barely able to get the Engineers on their GEV-PC to the bridge
before the 8 GEVs coming down the river were on me. So I thought that
if I'm not able to blow the bridge in time I should move onto the
bridge and lure the GEVs into an overrun attack. Not a good idea.
They simply shot the GEV-PC down. OK, that did 10 pts. damage to the
bridge. Unfortunately we said the bridge was 30 SP so losing 20 SP
was not enough.
By the time the GEVs were through the bridge I had my MHWZ there and
with it, a HVY, 3 squads and a lot of luck none of the 8 GEVs got
through. OK, my opponent made some mistakes.
Meanwhile in the west. Since the 4 GEVs there could go 10" north,
then attack and after that go 8" south, I had no chance to get at
them. I shot some holes into the road so the GEVs would lose their
road bonus but in the end 3 of 4 go through.
After counting it was 88 to 54 pts, a marginal victory for the GEVs.
