That was me (I think). The web page is long dead so it is likely not to be
found.

The most common problem with hex-maps that you
find on the net is that they are screen resolution. Thus if you
print them out they look ugly. My software was a set of programs
that generate povray source which then can be rendered to practically any
precision you care to wait for.

Unfortunately it is difficult to install and ackward to use. Fortunately it
produces rather nice output.
Examples can be found at http://www.cc.jyu.fi/~aleator/me/mapmaker.html
(sorry, finnish page). The upper picture is example of the prementioned
software.

(The second picture is example of fully procedural map - which needs no user
input to generate and will be as large as you like. And will produce endless
arguments about the type of hexes.)

I will send the map generator if someone wants it, but it is not easy to use.
On request I might also be able to produce povray sources or rendered images
if someone has a really cool map.

Oh, and on a final note. If you ever make a map for ogre, please use vector
graphics (svg, eps). They will be good for both onscreen and printer. Avoid
bitmaps at all costs. (You'd need about 1000x1000 pixels for 10cm x 10cm
image)
