[Ogre] infantry

I agree with all Jim K.'s points about survival rates.

A while back, somebody posted a link to a hidden file on SJ's website.
The link was to Evil Stevie's notes for GURPS Ogre 2. In it, there was
a paragraph or two about how hypno-training makes it a lot easier to
train tankers. I think there was also a bit about how muscle memory
plays a big part in piloting a battlesuit, and that therefore the
infantry were considered the more elite force. Even though they die
like dogs and the big empires seem to use them as cannon-fodder. (for
examples see virtually every published scenario).

Add to that, that playing infantry just isn't much fun. They've got
stupidly small miniatures. There's a lot of hassle making change with
the counters. They have 0% chance to dent missile tanks or GEVs. They
have a lot of niggly rules that slow down learning for the newbie. All
in all, infantry are not much fun.

It doesn't have to be that way. Remember how much fun it was to have an
infantry suit in Starship Troopers? Those battlesuits were highly
mobile - faster than anything their enemies had. Why must Ogre infantry
be so plodding? They can fly, for god's sake, but no faster than
40mph!? Give them a non-combat move of 5 hexes a turn or something
crazy. Make them virtually GEV-proof when hiding in cities/rubble.

Just a thought...
