One dollar (US) will get you the following:


                Attack   Defense  Move  Range  
 ____________________________________________________________
 Infantry 3/1     6        6       2    1      
 Ogre Mark VI    5      6.67       3    1-5    

So, Inf will give you more raw firepower dollar for dollar, but, and Ogre will give you more defense, speed, and range. Unless the Inf are in forest, cities, or swamps.

In a nutshell, Ogres are great for assaults (good attack, hard to kill, very concentrated), and Inf are great for defense (average attack, lots of coverage, and can be hard to kill).
