No; you may play a card even if you didn't play one before. The text on KNIGHTMARE gives exempts you from the usual prohibition of playing only 1 card per turn. It doesn't shackle you with a fresh restriction of playing 0 cards this turn.
The KNIGHTMARE card says "If he used a card...." You haven't used a card, so you may ignore that sentence.
