Even before Hemriok'sq went Renegade, he was looked at oddly among his
band. Smarter and more deliberate than most Destroyers, he swiftly
gained Malphus' favor, and with Freud, his star was on the rise. With
the advent of television talk/mental health shows, Hemriok'sq was at
his zenith, demonically speaking, and he was even in line for a Word.

Then Hemriok'sq got a little weirder: he stumbled upon Mainlining
while on the run from angels with Saureknimon, Habbalite of
Factions--Dallinger's associate, Marcus Brody, esq (divorce lawyer).
Seeing the potential of the ability, Hemriok'sq began frequenting
animal shelters to do what he could for injured puppies, kittens, and
other pets and strays. He justified it scientifically to himself, and
got out of trouble with The Game and his Superior by sowing discord
among employees of the shelter and children seeking pets. He got
rather good at it. In typical Calabite fashion, he appreciated
carnage, even if it was perpetrated on his own body, and he used that
as reason to delve into Songs. His research proceeded apace, and he
was even making inroads Mainlining with his Calabite of Factions
attunement, healing patients who suffered from dementia, delusions of
grandeur, and helped several patients afflicted with post-traumatic
stress disorder. Studying the talking monkeys was fascinating work,
and he wrote a paper on the subject which Technology noticed and gave
a subtle nod to... until its author's identity was discovered, and the
Genius Prince let his bias show. Malphas secretly congratulated him,
told him everything would work out.

That was when Doctor Dallinger was invited to a poetry reading in the
country by one of his former patients. The surroundings were lush,
inviting, relaxing. Guests were invited to pick fruit from the trees
at their whim while the performers recited their work. As the day wore
on, Hemriok'sq realized just how much suffering he'd caused
people--the poet reading in front of him included. Despite his
civilized veneer, Hemriok'sq enjoyed breaking things, most especially
humans, and it came as a surprise to him just how *badly* he felt
about that all of a sudden. At the end of the poetry reading, a kindly
woman invited him to come back tomorrow; there would be another event
he was sure to enjoy, she assured him. Intrigued, Dr Dallinger
acquiesced, and indeed, the dance piece he saw, accompanied by harps
and more fruit, was phenomenal. The groundskeeper offered to let him
stay for an astronomy viewing that night, and against his better
judgment, he took her up on that, too. Strangely, he fell asleep while
the crew were setting up the telescope, and he had the oddest *dream!*
Filled with remorse for the closet sadist he'd been, the doctor went
on a crusade to find all of his former patients and do everything he
could for them this time. Institutionalized patients, children
prescribed drugs for poor attention spans, everything--he sought them
all.

Marcus Brody came calling on him a few short months later, wondering
whatever had gotten into his typically staid and detached associate.
He'd been away from his office, taking house calls, Dallinger
explained. Indeed, Brody retorted, and why was it he'd only just
recently returned from Hell? Hemriok'sq had, in point of fact, just
escaped pursuit from The Game after shattering his Heart two days
prior. He was still suffering the loss of several Forces, too, and was
feeling rather drained by the experience. The prospect of attacking
his long-time partner in crime, as it were, left him feeling ill, yet
that was the only course of action open to him, he knew. Saureknimon
was as loyal to Malphas as any of Factions' Servitors (read: he looked
out for himself, first and foremost, and harboring or abetting a known
Renegade was unlikely, despite their long and storied history
together.

The gunshot never touched him. Deafened him for a moment, surely, but
when he looked about, it was Brody on the ground rather than himself,
and a rather large man holding a smoking shotgun before him. A shotgun
leveled at Hemriok'sq. "Run," the man advised. The Calabite took the
hint and turned 'round immediately. He hasn't looked back, and though
he runs into what he's sure are angels on occasion, he's still alive,
and demons gunning for him turn up dead at extraordinarily convenient
moments--especially since the Destroyer hasn't used his resonance in
typical fashion since before his visit to that bewitching garden....

* Dr Dallinger as a Role has been eroded by Factions and The
Game--Hemriok'sq formerly lived the Role to perfection, but on the run
from Hell, he's had little time to practice psychiatry for paying
clients, his bills are piling up, and his home is facing foreclosure.
