Most of the time, Saul is merely a bum on the street -
the city doesn't matter, as generally his "life"
consists of wandering endlessly around the poorer
sections and neighborhoods. He doesn't hassle anybody
in public, keeps away from respectable people and
never makes a scene, so if there are local police,
they don't give him much grief. If there are local
social workers, they try their best to help, but
generally sort of give up after a while; he doesn't
seem to need anything. If there are local gangs, they
stay far away from him, as he doesn't have anything,
either - and because he can punch through a brick
wall. While it is a miserable life, it is not
intolerable. Once a day, however, Saul goes somewhere
quiet and touches his brooch... and for the next few
hours, Saul remembers who he was.
Most of the time, it doesn't really matter - but there
are times when he "wakes up" to discover that
someone's given him a task. It invariably involves
engaging in an act of violence against a person or
persons; always in a manner consistent with an attack
by a deranged street person, and usually against those
with supernatural abilities. It doesn't particularly
matter to Saul what the job is; the Remnant does not
so much trust the originator of his missions as he
cannot conceive of a reason why he should not trust
him, her, or it. Certainly he does remember - if a
bit dimly, even while under the Brooch's influence -
that this is a voluntary state of existence for him,
and that it will be reversed some day. That is
apparently enough.
Saul does not really have a personality, per se. The
closest that he comes to it is "favorite combat
style," which is best described as relentless,
indifferent to personal risk, unemotional, and
disturbingly silent. He will use his attunements to
best advantage, and while he is notably solicitous of
damaging innocents (even the ones with guns) he is
indifferent to the survival of anyone who is clearly
on the True side of his target. Saul himself survives
because his combination of attunements and skills is
particularly lethal and because it is very difficult
for him to be traced afterwards.
It is widely assumed by the very few that know of his
existence that he is a particularly devoted servant of
Michael, but it should be noted that not a few Demon
Princes would be interested in having their very own
angelic assassin...
GM Note: For added effectiveness, it is suggested that
the GM rule that the inability to use Perception on
Remnants be extended to all situations - including
disturbance (permitting humans to notice him normally
would make for an interesting added wrinkle). For
true terror, it is suggested that the GM rule that
Will-based attacks do not work on Remnants, either
(with the exception of the Calabite resonance).
