There's an offhand line in the Kobal section of Superiors that I've always found rather telling.  "Ever seen Valefor and Janus in the same room?  Neither have I!"

Add this to the name 'Janus' itself, the god of two faces among other things, and...he wouldn't be the first AA to be insane, just the subtlest.  And there's little denying his servitors' shoplifting habits, which I've had no end of fun with playing Corat.
