I will disagree. In the neighborhood where I grew up, a manually-harvested 
single apple tree would leave enough fruit near the top to make all the 
small birds in the area (visible from one house, mind you) fly erratically, 
and the number of 'window kills' would increase dramatically.

historically 'spirits' had 0.05-0.1% alcohol, enough to make it safe to 
drink. Drinking water was dangerous (considering what else was done in the 
water by 'civilization'!

To become seriously drunk would require a day of solid drinking...
