Wait, possible story idea: a sorceror fully intends to use this as a "get 
out
of Hell free" card, but since you actually have to be willing to risk your
life for the other person, he ends up getting his Destiny by dying to
save her--but thanks to the soul tie, cannot ascend. Hopefully the lesson
about trying to cheat God will travel with him into his next life.

Would probably take more words than the list limit to do properly.
