IN> [Asmodeus Month] Abandon all hope, Ye who enter here

Heaven doesn't want you. They have no interest in
demonic redemption; their claims are just propaganda.
The Gamesters knows this.

They know this because they've checked.

The Humanity attunement is a delightful ability, but
it won't help the Asmodean spies unless they play the
part. So when a Gamester must spy in another
Principality, they normally arrange to be driven into
Hell along with the other Damned, sorted through the
Soul Yards, and so on.

And that means going past the angels of Final
Judgement.

The angels can't tell that the Gamester is a demon.
But they have to check each human, making sure that
only those who deserve eternal damnation enter Hell.
The Gamesters know this; approach the angels with
their hearts in their mouths. They haven't been that
evil, surely? They didn't really have a choice;
(usually) were created in Hell; they crack down on the
*really* evil demons – maybe, just maybe –

And the Angels of Final Judgement look deep into the
Asmodeans' souls: and ignore them.

A demon's destiny is to become an angel, and they
haven't – so there is no 'fulfilled destiny' to
trigger the angels' interest. And for a Gamester,
entering Hell isn't final; they will likely get posted
to earth or to The Marches one day. So any special
Final Judgement attunements are unlikely to trigger.
Serving in Hell, the demon is unlikely to have had an
opportunity to do anything truly selfless or
honorable: and if they had (and acted on it), their
fellow Gamesters would have arrested them. So the
Malakite resonance won't register the demon as being
of interest either.

The Gamesters don't know any of this. They just know
that Heaven's justice condemns them. No trial, no
opportunity to argue their case, no consideration of
how difficult it is to be selfless in Hell. Heaven's
justice stands by, uncaring, as they are herded into
the Soul Yards.
Shock fades, despair fades, hope fades. But anger –
remains. They can never admit that anger, of course:
that would mean admitting that they wanted to redeem,
and doing that would be suicide. Even admitting it to
themselves is too painful. So they find little ways to
express it – casually cruelties to Renegades, delight
in the suffering of Outcasts. Sneering at angelic
offers of forgiveness.
And Asmodeus tells himself that this is why he
arranges for his Servitors to enter Hell as humans: to
increase their loyalty and efficiency.
That they suffer, as he suffers: is irrelevant.
For it is has been over 20,000 years since he traveled
through that Gate. The sting of rejection is long
gone. Yes, forgotten. Irrelevant!
