Um. This may be the case. How do you turn overquoting off, in GMail? Because

theheretik, this applies to you as well. Overquoting is something that gets
people put on digest mode 'round these parts, I'm afraid. If you're using
an HTML emailer, the HTML is being stripped by the mailing list settings
and all your |-looking quote marks are gone, gone, gone. You need to add
in > or other "obviously quoting the text" markers by hand if you can't
change your emailer's settings.
(I should note, I'm perfectly happy to look into ways to help people
change their email clients' settings to eliminate overquoting and
HTML.)
