That's what I get for writing emails at such an
unGodly (heh) hour - mistakes. Thank you, good sir,
for the correction. The fact that the 'Word' in this
section is intended to be 'Christ' is obviously beyond
doubt, but me brain wents to the zoo whilst typing.

:)

I'd give it more than a "may," but I'm a cynic that
way (but not a Cynic). If John were in fact written
in Ephesus, however, he could have easily come by it
second-hand, so to speak. To quote Asimov, Ephesus
was "the very center of the Greek philosophic
tradition and the place where the term 'Logos' was
first used" (by Thales, to reference the 'rational,
ordered character' of the universe). Given the hymnal
nature of the prologue, and the fact that the
identification of Jesus with Logos never again occurs
in the book, I'm comfortable with suggesting that he
might have borrowed the meditative or devotional
liturgy from a local source as an opening to his book.
What turns on this point? Nothing whatsoever. :D

However - to wrench this back to In Nomine so we don't
anger the local ArchAngel - I enjoy the concept that
Jesus is equated with "Word" here; it always makes me
think maybe his Word is Word. Hard to beat one like
that, although I see Nybbas as actually coming up with
occasional, doomed schemes to try to chip away at it
ever so slightly - everything from introducing those
little icons to replace words on your dashboard, to
making "word" in to a ridiculous catch-phrase in
itself, to diverting attention away from reading and
(well) words to television and radio. None of these
seem to be *working*, and Satan wishes Nybbas would
stop wasting time with these idiotic attempts (even
though they're only sidelines), but Nybbas is crazy
enough to believe that maybe he can do it. Jesus just
snickers.
