I realize the selfish/selfless polarity is built into In Nomine, but 
it's not really the core of Christian ethics, or those of any other 
Abrahamic religion.  (And, with all the details taken from Revelation, 
In Nomine has more coloring from Chrisianity than from any other 
religion.)

The core of Christian ethics is love, charity.
The core of Jewish ethics is righteousness.
The core of Moslem ethics is obedience.

The selflessness bit is a low-octane version of charity.  Start 
considering that instead of selflessness and you may still get 
paradoxes, but I bet they're not quite the same paradoxes.
