I would err on the side of letting the plan work out, especially if it involves
skills/abilities that the players have paid points for and put on their
character sheets, or if the plan looks like it will be entertaining or
memorable.

The GM may think that the player's plan is really stupid, but if the character
has Bluff/6 it should work.  Never make the players think that the points spent
on Bluff/6 would be better spent on Combat Skills/6.

Likewise, never make the players think that time spent on inventing unusual
plans is wasted since it all boils down to a fight scene anyway.
