Also, even if was possible for Jean to have a perfect understanding of
the laws of physics and chemistry, and could theoretically have perfect
prediction... he might not be able to gather the incredibly vast
amounts of data needed, with the necessary precision, in a sufficiently
small space of time, to be able to turn that prediction into reality.
(In fact, I think it's impossible: the data must exceed Jean's ability
to store it, because whatever stores it - even his own mind - is also
part of the data!)
As an analogy: just because it is possible to determine every possible
game of chess and therefore, in theory, to play a perfect game, doesn't
mean it's possible to do so in practice.
