   Both these allusions are a) not the actual end of
the War (the more violent one ends with 'the survivors
pick themselves up and wonder why it's not over') and
b) a fulfilment of the prophesied 'Final Conflict of
Champions' (One being the violent one everyone
expects, the other a civil one that few do)

   I assume that they assumed that the trumpet would
sound with or without Gabriel's help when the required
prophecy came to past (kind of like God can sometimes
communicate with angels even after Metatron's death).

   *That* makes tactical sense. However your original
post said "in the opening salvo" which as I said would
'invalidate' the prophecy (as written) unless she were
the chosen champion.
