My thoughts are that the ship would use barrelponics as its basic for
food production. With some LED grow lights you can grow a lot of fish
and a large variety of plants. The system is closed, takes little
input and is very robust. I one thing you do need is an input of fish
food. The fish can eat the plants that grow on the water but a bit
more is needed because we are eating some of it.

On the Earth people often compost the wastes and feed that to worms
and then the worms t o the fish. I am not sure what pure inputs you
would need but with the system the people are basically eating from
the power system of the ship.
