If the ship does not stay in the center of the bubble, but rather the
bubble aligns itself that way with a timelag, while moving in the same
direction at warp speed it has a couple of nice effects:
It works pretty much analogous to ships on water. If you stop the drive
after a while the ship stops.
There would be the possiblitly that you accelerate faster then your warp
bubble "follows". Which can have all sorts of effects, from destroying the
ship to simply leaving the bubble or anything between. This means you have
risky speeds, close to the border of the bubble, where the pilots has to
decide, how much speed he risks.
If the bubble moves towards the center of gravity within itself (or
propably "center of gravity" where mass is weighted more the closer it is
to the border of the bubble to have stronger effects), this
leads to an other reason not to engadge the warp drive on planets of
within solar systems. Any mass that enters your bubble, throws of your
course. On planets you first need to make sure the ship has more mass then
any ground that also is within the bubble or it goes downward and you
will have constantly air entering and leaving. Within a soloar system but
outside athmosphere, you still have plenty of debris, that might require
constant maneuvering to hold your course.
But you still can do it if you are real desperate.
One mans groundfloor is an other mans earthmissle
