Well with the addition of Mecha to the Gurps 4e Spaceships collections I
decided to try my hand at one for the first time. I figure since I went
through the effort I had might as well share it here and see if I am doing
something wrong.
The Gimp (Ground Intermediate Piloting Trainer - GIMPT-1)
Produced by Fel Armaments as an advanced trainer mech for pilots to learn
basic weapon, sensor, comms, and ECM operations. It stand bipedal about
15 meters tall, masses about 27 metric tons and has a mix of weapon
systems to allow trainees to practice with a variety of system and allows
the Gimp to be used in a variety of training applications. The lack of
any serious armor, seriously limits it usefulness for actual combat
however. Students also complain about the lack of an emergency ejection
system and the fact that they are sitting directly on top of the Hydrogen
fuel cell - teachers usually delight in telling them that this design is
intentional to help protect the pilot from any radiation leaks in the
fission reactor.
The Gimp is functional enough that it could be used against light skinned
armor or in guerilla tactics - but in a stand up fight it will find itself
overmatched in all but the most unusual circumstances. The retractable
radiator array can be supplemented with the internal coolant to extend its
operation during combat-like situations, and the secondary power system is
used to operate one weapon system at a time (either the rail gun or the
laser cannon).

Main reactor can operate without refuel for up to 50 years, the secondary
fuel cell offers 12 hours of supplemental power.
The Gimp can operate for up to 1 hour with its radiator array retracted
before its coolant is exhausted.
