Chemical Explosives are not the only option, as I understand it an Explosion 
is essentially the transition point at which Thermal Expansion rapidly 
exceeds the containment capabilities of whatever is resisting the expansion 
(I don't know if the expanding material needs to have made the transition to 
gaseous or not)...

So anything that lets you generate or transfer heat at a sufficiently 
high-rate could cause an explosion, forex a Fusion power plant rapidly 
overheating/charging a metallic resistor laid along the path of charge 
required could be an explosion, & may be more readily doable on an asteroid 
(especially a metallic one) than forumulating chemical explosives (which a 
only a moderately efficient way of storing the energy until you wish to 
release it anyway).
