This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

HeliCar v1.0 (TL8)
Copyright 2009 by Onno Meyer
Some science fiction writers predicted ubiquitous personal helicopters
by the late 20th century. This never happened in the real world, but the
HeliCar can be used for games in these settings.
The small helicopter has two seats in front and a folding bench in the
rear. The avionics are simple, GPS, radio and transponder for navigation
and fly-by-wire controls to help inexperienced pilots. Twin gas turbines
allow the HeliCar to cruise 260 miles at 110 mph.
The turbines burn 16.5 gallons of fuel per hour at routine speed. A
tank of diesel is $48.
Subassemblies: Body +3, three retractable Wheels -1, Top-and-Tail Rotor
-1.
Powertrain: 300-kW top and tail rotor drivetrain; two 150-kW standard
gas turbines; 2,000-kWs advanced battery.
Fuel: 40 gallons diesel (fire 7).
Occ: 1 CCS, 1 CS, 2 folding CS. Cargo: 8 cf.

Design Notes
Body is 150 cf, fair streamlining. Wheels are 7.5 cf, retract into
body. Rotor is 3 cf. Structure is light and standard. Armor is standard
composite. Electronic controls. There are 14.4 cf of empty space in the
body. Empty weight is 1,200 lbs.
The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [second edition, third
printing, Dec 2004 errata], VXi and VXii (including the armor volume and
ceiling rules) with the text format from Vehicles Lite.
Next Week: A larger variant.
