Say I want total life support, powered by solar cells
and batteries for a 12-hour night, to be recharged in
each 12-hour day, i.e. twice the immediately consumed
power.

TL7:  4,560 lbs. plus 1,000 sf (advanced batteries)
TL8:  1,482 lbs. plus 500 sf (advanced batteries)
TL8:  1,110 lbs. plus 500 sf (rechargeable power cells)
TL9:    465 lbs. plus 250 sf (rechargeable power cells)
TL10:   445 lbs. plus 250 sf (rechargeable power cells)

Normal sails can mount solar cells from TL10 up, and 
rigid wingsails can do it from TL7 onwards. 

But unless the boat stays at the equator or in the 
summer hemisphere at all times, there must be more 
solar cells and batteries, in the worst case for a 
six-month polar night ...
