The description doesn't say, does it also offer protection from lack  
of atmosphere? Do you need a separate spell to provide a breathable  
air supply, or is that assumed to be part of the spell?

Since the pressure raises by 1 atmosphere for approximately every 10  
meters / 33 feet you below the surface of water, this spell would  
allow you to withstand a depth of 330 feet at the first level and 3300  
feet at the second level. For comparison, the normal safe limit for  
non-decompression scuba diving is about 90 feet.
