Not really. They didn't remove the roleplaying, they just removed the
rules regarding roleplay. Instead roleplaying is left to the
discretion of the GM and the players rather than some arbitrary
mechanics.
I've been running a weekly DnD4E game since July. There's been no
shortage of roleplaying, in fact it seems to be more RP since the
mechanics no longer restrict what you can play out.
However, GURPS is still my system of choice. I love the shear
versatility of it. And GURPS 4th seems to open that up even more...
my two favorite G4 books... Powers and Thaumatology.
