This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. My site is down for rebuilding, but sooner or
later the old stuff should reappear at omeyer.gmxhome.de

Nexa-III-class Light Orbital Transfer Vehicle v1.0 (TL10)

The Nexa III is used as an orbital and deep space transport in thinly
settled systems. She was designed as an OTV, without the safety margins
for deep space work, but start-up colonies are known to cut corners and
to use the little Orbital Transfer Vehicle for trips to the Jump Points
in the outer system.
The OTV has a roughly box-shaped frame with two decks. The upper deck
contains the cargo and a docking airlock, the lower deck holds the life
support system, quarters for 12 to 15 people, and the control room. The
efficient little fusion rocket provides 49 km/s delta-V with a nominal
fuel and cargo load, or more than 100 km/s running light.
The engine uses 80 gallons of reaction mass per hour.

Subassemblies: Body +6.
Powertrain: 4,000-lb. vectored fusion rocket; 250-kW RTG; six
  360,000-kWs rechargeable E power cells.
Fuel: 2,000 gallons water.
Occ: 3 RCS, 12 bunks. Cargo: 2,000 cf.

Equipment:
  Body: Two very-long-range radios; two very-long-range, tight-beam
radios; four 5x LLTVs; two 160-mile, air-search radars; 16-mile r
adscanner; flight data recorder; precision navigation instruments; two
transponders; two inertial navigation systems; two C5 hardened
minicomputers; three terminals; compact fire suppression system; 2-man
airlock; refueling probe; 15-man full life system. External: Radiation
shielding.

Statistics
Size: 16'x16'x20' Payload: 30 tons Lwt.: 40 tons
Volume: 4,000 cf Maint.: 3 man-hours Price: $395,100

HT: 9. HPs: 1,500 Body

sAccel: 0.05 to 0.06 Gs sMR: 0.05 Delta-V: 110,283 mph

Design Notes
Body is 4,000 cf. Structure is light and expensive. Armor is expensive
metal. Sealed. Computerized controls with duplicate maneuver controls.
There are 134.8 cf of empty space. Empty weight is 20,000 lbs.
The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [2nd edition, 3rd
printing, Dec 2004 errata], VXi and VXii (including the armor volume
rule) with the text format from Vehicles Lite.

Next Week: A longer-ranged version.
