I must disagree with you sir. The very next paragraphs after your quote are
the two types. Regular spells can be targetted volume-based, affecting
whomever is there OR subject-based, with the spell auto-sensing the
distance.

I follow the example of the Long-Distance Modifiers (B241), where the
shortest range before the first marker is 0 modifier.
