That's a non sequitur. I'm not saying that I want web access *removed*
and replaced by NNTP; I'm saying that the advantages of NNTP access to
discussion forums are great enough that it should be *available*.

Whether people want to continue using a cumbersome interface for
whatever reason, is irrelevant to me, to the extent that I'm not
impacted by another person's choice of access method.

So, to the extent that those who choose to do so have full exercise of
the power of an NNTP client to participate in the discussion forums,
there is no need for “the general internet using public” (whoever
that may be) to be adversely affected.
