This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. My site is down for rebuilding, but sooner or
later the old stuff should reappear at omeyer.gmxhome.de

Iiken-class 1-ton Pinnace v1.0 (GURPS Traveller TL5)
  Copyright 2008 by Onno Meyer

During the Long Night, the planet Sonthert lost most technology. Some
historical knowledge was retained, and so the most common sailing craft
was named after an Interstellar Wars era Scout/Courier.
The open boat can be sailed or rowed. The mast is usually stowed when
the Pinnace is carried aboard a larger ship, while coastal Pinnaces may
carry less than ten oars. The crew ranges from two or three under sails
to a maximum of two dozen. A small box near the tiller holds a compass,
chronometer, sextant and maps, but usually the Iiken would stay within
sight of land.

Subassemblies: Body +4, Mast -2.
Powertrain: 10 rowing positions, 120-sf Bermuda-and-Jib rig.
Occ: 2 XNCS, 10 XCCS, 12 XCSR. Cargo: 60 cf open.

Design Notes
Body is 499.2 cf with average lines. Mast is 20' and 0.8 cf. Structure
is light and standard. Armor is standard wood. Waterproofed. Primitive
controls. 16 cf of empty space. Empty weight is 4,000 lbs.
The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [second edition, third
printing, Dec 2004 errata], VXi (rig and sailing performance) and VXii
(armor volume) with the text format from Vehicles Lite. The Traveller
background affects the design decisions, not the technology.

Next Week: The missing tilt-jet.
