If you're going for full authenticity, the Helva-era shells don't
have even minimal sensors on the shell, just the life-support and a
"socket" neural interface.  After a certain incident in "The Ship Who
Sings" they get a minimal auditory and visual sensor on the shell.  
But not even the latest stories have wheels or arms on the shell
itself.  That's a *major* plot point.  They also do not have "remote"
neural links, just hard-wire on the shell.  Tia uses the *ship's*
remote links to run her android body.
