This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. My site is down for rebuilding, but sooner or
later the old stuff should reappear at omeyer.gmxhome.de

Sternmetal Type 12b Minerbot v1.0 (GURPS Traveller TL10)
  Copyright 2008 by Onno Meyer

The Sternmetal Minerbot series is used on inhospitable planets. The
Type 12a sets explosive charges, the Type 12b removes the ore and the
Type 12c lays tracks in the newly cleared tunnel. A central computer
coordinates a swarm of semi-independent robots.
The Type 12b Minerbot runs to the end of the tracks to remove rocks
and ore and to prepare the ground for the next section of tracks. The
robot mounts an excavator arm in front and a cargo bay in the rear. A
powerful light and two cameras are used to control the excavator - on
tracks, navigation is hardly a problem ...

Body is 40 cf. Wheels are 10 cf (increased volume). Structure is
medium, cheap, robotic. Armor is cheap metal. Sealed. 17.53 cf of empty
space in the Body. Empty weight is 1,200 lbs.
The vehicle uses the design rules from GURPS Vehicles [2nd edition,
3rd printing, Dec 2004 errata], VXi, VXii (the armor volume rule) and
the text format from Vehicles Lite. The Traveller background affects
the design decisions, not the technology.

Next Week: The Type 12c.
