Yes to both. Johnny is the underacheiving, rich pretty boy who has
gotten by on his looks and family wealth. Most of his training is
weeding to get rid of people who can't learn, won't learn, or have
infirmities of any kind. The "you just wear it" nature of the suit means
he doesn't have to be smart, just dependable. He does turn out to have a
little more on the bean and is good at keeping others on track, so he
rises to officer level, but really he's a guy who has found a way to
serve his society *and* score with chicks by doing a dangerous and
flashy job, instead of staying home and scoring with chicks as a luxury
aircraft tycoon.
