* The nose is used to mount HUGE radars and usually a cannon or two.
* You have to duct the air past the cockpit.

My source is Jane's Encyclopedia of Aviation, 1993 expanded reprint of
the 1980 edition and hence questionable regarding Soviet-era secrets.

* Fishbed-A: Tumansky R-11 turbojet, 11,240 lb with afterburner, two
  30mm NR-30 cannon.
* Fishbed-C (MiG-21F): Tumansky R-11 turbojet, 12,676 lb afterburning,
  only one cannon but two Atoll AAM.
* Fishbed-D (MiG-21PF): 13,120 lb afterburning, but the engine is
  still called R-11.
* Fishbed-E: Optional 23mm gun pod
  [...]
* Fishbed-J: "Similar" to MiG-21PFMA, whatever that means, and the
  version with the performance data in the book.
  - 14,550 lb afterburning turbojet
  - Mach 2.1 max level speed, Mach 1.06 max low-level speed. In the
    real world, speed depends on altitude :-)
  - Twin 23mm GSh-23 in belly pack
  - The PFMA has four weapons hardpoints and one for a fuel tank or
    GP-9 underbelly gun pack. Later models can mount the gun in the
    fuselage.
  [...]

Vehicles pegs Mach 1 at 760 mph, so Mach 2.1 is 1,600 mph. With the
listed afterburning thrust, I get a drag of 43.

> Cramped Crewstation with Ejection Seat/G-seat/HUD,

There was a dual-seat trainer. Either you give the standard bird a
larger body to fit one more seat or the trainer gets a different
airframe.

Quite digital for a 1950 or even 1970 design.

How did you select the range?
