This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. My site is down for rebuilding, but sooner or
later the old stuff should reappear at omeyer.gmxhome.de

I thought a bit about the hypersled question and decided to write a
Traveller jump sled. The smallest FTL craft in the Traveller universe
are 100 displacement tons (50,000 cubic feet), so it is no small sled.
I considered a skeletal open frame with cargo racks, but then I opted
for a flat salvage ship instead.

When free traders break down far from civilization, starships like the
Ant-class Jump Sled tow them back to the shipyards. The Sled consists of
a spaceframe with a grapple for a salvaged ship, an oversized jump drive
and tank and minimal support systems. The jump range is one parsec with
a 200-dton payload, two parsecs with a 100-dton payload or five parsecs
with an empty grapple. The acceleration will be low, but the contragrav
unit allows a liftoff with a Far or Free Trader from earthlike worlds.
A typical crew consists of a pilot an an engineer. That leaves enough
life support capacity - but no proper quarters - for five crew from the
salvaged craft.
