This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. My site is down for rebuilding, but sooner or
later the old stuff should reappear at omeyer.gmxhome.de

Space Racer v1.0 (TL9)
Copyright 2007 by Onno Meyer
Once space travel becomes common, there could be sporting ships like
this Space Racer. She has a needle-shaped hull with a large engine and
small wings to minimize atmospheric drag. The fusion rocket produces 6
to 10 G at full thrust, with 114 kps delta-V and 25 minutes endurance.
The design assumes events combining atmospheric and orbital sections
in rapid succession. Some or all avionics might be sealed to challenge
the skills of the pilot rather than the competence of the technical
support team ...
Subassemblies: Body +3, four retractable Wheels +0, two Wings -1.

Design Notes
Body is 246 cf, with radical streamlining. Wheels are 12.3 cf, retract
into body. Wings are 2 cf. Structure is extra-light, advanced, and
responsive. Armor is advanced, fire-proof ablative. Sealed. Tanks are
ultra-light. Computerized controls. There are 39.9 cf of empty space in
the body and 1.4 cf in each wing. Empty weight is 2,100 lbs.
The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [2nd edition, 3rd
printing, Dec 2004 errata] and VXii (including the armor volume rule)
with the text format from Vehicles Lite.
Next Week: An armed variant.
