This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. My site is down for rebuilding, but sooner or
later the old stuff should reappear at omeyer.gmxhome.de

Hybrid Starfreighter v1.0 (TL8/12)
  Copyright 2007 by Onno Meyer

Many science fiction backgrounds mix near future technology with a few
breakthroughs to allow interstellar travel. The craft described here has
a contragrav unit, a STL engine, and a FTL engine, all violating physics
as we know it, and an optimistic power cell.
The Hybrid Starfreighter can transport 240 tons of cargo and perhaps a
few passengers. It has a single deck with the reactor and engines in the
rear, two cargo holds separated by a corridor in the center and the crew
section with the bridge in front. The core crew consists of a master, a
mate, a navigator, and three engineers, assisted by a few deck hands, a
few mechanics, and often a purser, a medic, or a security guard.
In a game, the freighter cannot compete with larger starships on main
trade routes. It is used to supply marginal colonies and scientific
outposts, far from civilization and far from help. Just the setting for
a good adventure ...
A full load of provisions is $45,000.

sAccel: 0.2 sMR: 0.2 Hyperspeed: 0.4 parsecs per day

Design Notes
Body is 50,000 cf, with underbelly skids, lifting body and very good
streamlining. Structure is heavy and expensive. Armor is expensive
metal. Sealed. Computerized controls with quadruple maneuver controls.
There are 1,439.4 cf of empty space. Empty weight is 500,000 lbs.
The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [2nd edition, 3rd
printing, Dec 2004 errata], VXi and VXii (including the armor volume
rule) with the text format from Vehicles Lite. All components except
for those listed as TL12 are TL8.

Next Week: A recon spacefighter to implement some of Eric's suggestions.
