What about the kind of education one gets in modern schools? In addition
to reading, writing and arithmetic, there is a smattering of literature,
history, art, music, soft and hard sciences. If you wanted to reflect
all this with points in skills, you probably overrate the usefulness of,
say, high-school chemistry.
I think this "background information" is (a) the reason why there are
defaults for most skills and (b) a justification to GURPSify a formal
education as points in IQ rather than points in separate skills.
