Hello folks,
Sticking my head in quick (and ducking of course!)
IQ as identified by Sean Punch in his Alternative IQ calculation piece he
wrote a long time back...
Adaptability: learning speed and practical problem solving ability: There
is a GURPS 4e advantage that relates to this of sorts - but only as part
of the learning speed issue. Talents. Each level of Talent reduces the
time required to earn 1 character point in a skill by 10%. Practical
problem solving does not come under any given advantage that I'm aware of
(that means that if you are aware of something I missed - SHOUT!!! and let
us know <g>)
Alertness: those have their aspect in GURPS as an advantage or as a
separated stat from IQ in the form of PERCEPTION.
Analytical thinking (logic, reason, and mathematical problem solving
ability): this MIGHT have an application as a "Talent" aspect for IQ.
Lightning calculator also seems to fall in this category.
Creativity (artistic or scientific innovation and imagination): again,
this seems to be something covered by Talent: artistic.
Formal Education: this does not seem to have an analog in GURPS as
advantages. Perhaps a CORE aspect of IQ?
Memory: GURPS as far as I know, doesn't really have a set of regular
"memory" rules aside from those of editic memory, which seems a shame.
Would Memory thus be considered a core element of IQ?
Practical experience (Wisdom, common sense, informal education): Common
sense seems to fill in as the advantage that models this aspect of IQ in
GURPS 3e.
Sanity (psychological stability): Sheesh - part of IQ???!!!! How do you
quantify Sanity as part of someone's IQ?!! Will seems to reflect strength
of purpose/will as an attribute. Would Sanity come under "WILL" instead
of IQ?
Synthetic thinking ability (intuition): it would appear that GURPS has
separated out this aspect of IQ by means of Intuition as an advantage -
no?
Willpower - this seems to have been separated out from GURPS IQ in 4e as a
separate stat.
So what things in GURPS is IQ supposed to represent that doesn't have an
analog as an advantage in GURPS?
Problem solving, Formal Education, Memory?, Sanity?, and perhaps Sythentic
thinking ability?
Comments?
